Is there a fee to register?
Yes, there is a $50 online registration fee. Your $50 registration fee is not refundable if you cancel your registration. This $50 fee is considered a donation to Story by Story®. This registration fee also applies to “virtual climbers.”
The registration fee will be included in your "total funds raised so far" tally on your fundraising web page.
Is there a fundraising requirement?
Yes, there is a $100 fundraising minimum for all participants. Participants must have personally raised, contributed or pledged at least $100 in order to climb. Please read the full details about this requirement.
We ask all participants to raise or contribute $100 via the Story by Story event web site no later than October 14, 9:00 am, when online registration closes. If climbers wish to personally donate the $100, they should donate this amount directly to their own account (through their personal fundraising page).
The $100 fundraising minimum is in addition to your registration fee. Your fee will also show up on your web page tally of funds raised.
Participants who have not satisfied the fundraising requirement by the deadline can bring payment with them to the event, checking in at the Help Desk. Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted. Help Desk staff can also provide information about pledging the $100, if climbers plan to fundraise after the event.
Any registrant who fails to raise/donate $100 in advance or to provide payment information at the event will be turned away. This rule also applies to “virtual climbers.”
Can someone register to climb at the event site, on the day of the event?
What should I do if my company intends to underwrite my registration fee and/or $100 fundraising requirement?
For climbers who are being financially sponsored by their firms, please make arrangements directly with your employer to be reimbursed for your $50 registration fee. Each individual climber must submit an online payment of $50 during the registration process.
When I register, can I choose to climb less than the full 43 floors of the building?
Yes, there is a registration choice of 22 floors. You can also choose to be a "virtual climber" (please see next question). You can officially change your route anytime before Monday, October 14, 5:00 pm. Once you confirm your route, we only ask that you do the best you can—you are not required to complete the climb and can end your climb at any time.
What is a virtual climber?
A virtual climber is someone who does not plan to climb stairs, but wishes to fundraise for Her Justice. If you will not be in New York City on October 17 or have health conditions which make stair climbing inadvisable—or for whatever reason—you may want to consider registering as a virtual climber. In all other respects, virtual climbers are just like "real" climbers in their fundraising practices: they can create a personal fundraising page on the event web site and they can email their contacts about their fundraising goal, etc. Virtual climbers are welcome to attend the event. Virtual climbers are subject to the same registration fee ($50) and fundraising minimum ($100) as actual climbers.
What is the registration option for becoming an extreme climber?
To raise awareness of the burdens carried by Her Justice's clients and to make their climb more challenging, participants can choose to wear a 10 lb. weighted fitness belt during their 43-flight climb (climbers wearing belts will not be permitted to climb the building twice). The equipment will be provided to climbers (free of charge) at the event, to be returned to Her Justice after the climb.
We ask that interested climbers check off this option on the registration form as soon as possible as there are only 85 Extreme Climber slots available.
What is a "Personal Web Page Link" and why should I create this when I register?
When you register, you have the option to create an easy-to-remember, short version of your personal fundraising web page address. This is very convenient for giving the link to others so they can donate to your page. Otherwise, your web page address will be a longer, more cumbersome address. We encourage all climbers to create a "Personal Web Page Link," but your web page will still work fine without one.
What if I need to cancel my registration?
If I participated in Story by Story last year, can I use my old login information?
Can my friends and family (who are NOT registered to participate) come to the finish line party?
Unfortunately we cannot accommodate guests who are not registered for the event. Please encourage friends and family to register as climbers or virtual climbers if they wish to attend the event. Virtual climbers are subject to the same registration fee ($50) and fundraising minimum ($100) as actual climbers. Registration will end on October 14, 9:00 am.
Can I be a volunteer at the event, rather than a climber?
Can I register as a climber AND as a volunteer?
