Steps to registering online and setting up your
personal fundraising webpage (MY HQ)

Step 1—Visit www.storybystory.org

Click on "Register to climb"

Step 2—Register

You have 3 registration options, and all climbers be at least 16-years-old (see "Climber categories" under the "About Story by Story" tab for more details):

  • Team Captain: select "Start a Team" to create a new team and register as the team's captain
  • Team Member: select "Join a Team" to register
  • Individual Climber: select "Join as an Individual" to register

You have 5 available climbing route options:
During the registration process, you will be given the option to choose which route you prefer:

  • The Double—86 floors—climb the building twice
Climbers seeking the ultimate challenge are invited to climb the building twice. The first half of the climb will end on the 43rd floor, where climbers can access an elevator to return to the lobby.
  • The Extreme—43 floors wearing a 10 lb. belt
    Only 85 slots available—register early

10 lb. fitness beltTo pay tribute to the clients of Her Justice and the burdens they bear every day, wear a 10 lb. weighted fitness belt for the 43-flight climb (climbers wearing belts will not be permitted to climb the building twice). The equipment will be loaned to climbers (free of charge) at the event.
  • The Classic—43 floors
  • The Half—22 floors
  • The Virtual—raise funds, but climb only in spirit
If you will be out-of-town on October 21, or would just rather take the elevator, choose the virtual climb option. You do everything the same way (same registration, team-building, etc.), but you arrive at the party without breaking a sweat. Virtual climbers are subject to the same fundraising requirement ($150) as actual climbers.

If you participated in Story by Story® last year, we remember you!
Click on "Login" and use the same username and password that you used to register last year. If you don't remember your login and password from last year, simply click on the "Forgot Username and/or Password " link.

Step 3—Create a "Personalized Page Link" for your fundraising webpage

When you register, you have the option to create an easy-to-remember, short version of your personal fundraising webpage address.

This is very convenient for giving the link to others so they can donate to your page—for example, www.storybystory.org/janedoe. Otherwise, your webpage address will be a longer, more cumbersome address. We encourage all climbers to create a short user-friendly URL, but your webpage will work fine without one.

Step 4—Familiarize yourself with your MY HQ page

MY HQ is an online fundraising and communications center which you can use to manage all aspects of your Story by Story campaign.

From your headquarters, you can:

  • Personalize your webpage ("My Webpage" tab)
  • Edit your personal information and set your fundraising goal
  • Send emails to family, friends and colleagues to ask for donations ("Email" tab)
  • Monitor your progress ("Reports" tab)
  • Enter offline donations of cash and checks ("Tools" tab)
  • Promote your fundraising campaign on social networking sites—add a fundraising thermometer and/or a scrolling honor roll list acknowledging the individuals who are supporting your climb ("Gadgets" tab)

Step 5—Personalize your webpage

Sharing a picture of yourself and a personal statement on your webpage will help people connect with your campaign.

  • Click on the "My Webpage" tab to add a photo and a personal statement about why you are participating in Story by Story
  • You can also personalize your page with a photograph from our image library or upload a YouTube video clip
  • Add a compelling caption below the photo displayed on your web page

Step 6—Send emails

The "Email" tab contains team recruitment, donation solicitation and thank you email templates which you can easily customize with your own personal messages.

  • Send personalized emails to your contacts asking them to make a donation towards your fundraising goal
  • Invite them to join your team
  • Encourage team members to raise money
  • Send thank you messages to the people who donate to your campaign

Step 7—Promote your campaign on social media networks

The "Email" tab also contains widgets that allow you to update your Twitter status from MY HQ and to share links to your Story by Story personal fundraising page on your favorite social networks.

  • Add your campaign "fundraising thermometer" to your Facebook or Twitter profile page ("Gadget" tab)
  • Acknowledge your supporters by publishing a scrolling "Honor Roll " box on your Facebook or Twitter profile page ("Gadget" tab)

Step 8—Track your campaign

Log in and visit My HQ regularly to check on your progress, run reports on your team's progress and send follow-up emails.

Checklist for your fundraising campaign
